This article is part three of a series of articles looking at the Cubs' not-so-distant future. To read part two, which takes a look at the outfield, follow this link.
Starlin Castro still has plenty of developing to do at the major league level, but he is under team control for the next five offseasons and has probably locked up a spot in the starting lineup until he proves he doesn't deserve it, which hopefully won't happen.
Geovany Soto was one of baseball's best offensive catchers during his rookie campaign and, after a disappointing 2009 season, has bounced back to ...
The Chicago Cubs have moved Tom Gorzelanny around, from the rotation to the bullpen and then back again. With the talk of Carlos Zambrano returning to the bullpen, if he ever returns to the active roster, it appears that Gorzelanny is entrenched into the rotation.
The question for fantasy owners is if he can prove usable in the second half. First, let’s take a look at his numbers through 17 appearances (11 starts):
3 Wins68.0 Innings3.31 ERA1.43 WHIP69 Strikeouts (9.1 K/9)35 Walks (4.6 BB/9).321 BABIP
He has 62 strikeouts in 61.2 innings as a starting pitcher. Clearly, the strikeout rate is not a function of working in ...
Coming into the series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Chicago Cubs had lost seven of their last ten games. They had not been losing close games either, they were getting blown out. The pitching staff had struggled and the drama of the Carlos Zambrano saga was obviously a distraction to a team that was struggling.
It wasn’t just the pitching though, the offense would show up one game then be non-existent for days. Clearly the Cubs were reeling like only the Cubs can do. From a Diamondbacks fan’s perspective, this is the best time to welcome the Cubbies to Chase ...
Dorothy “Dottie” Kamenshek was the Babe Ruth, so to speak, of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the only women’s professional baseball league in baseball history.
She passed away on May 17, 2010 at age 84. The Gina Davis character in A League of Their Own was named after Dottie and loosely based on her.
The AAGPBL lasted 12 seasons from 1943 through 1954. At its inception, the “girls” played a game that was closer to fast-pitch softball than what we think of as baseball.
However, as the league matured, the rules changed until by the end of the 1954, the lady ...
I know what you're probably thinking—it's too late to fix the sorry state of the Cubs.
While you may be right, it's our moral obligation here at Bleacher Report to act as armchair GM and help Jim Hendry generally manage this team. The good thing about this job is that no matter what happens after that, we won't get blamed!
None of these suggestions are earth-shattering ideas. In fact, they scream of a common sense approach. However, we can also have a little fun while we're at it, can't we?
Here we go...Begin Slideshow

The Cubs have five outfielders on their 25-man roster that could start for just about any team in major league baseball: Marlon Byrd, Tyler Colvin, Kosuke Fukudome, Xavier Nady, and Alfonso Soriano.
Although having depth isn't a bad thing, and is often what most teams are seeking to build, this organization can afford to part with some of their depth. In fact, it might be in their best interest to do ...
Don't be fooled by what some of the Cubs players and management will tell you, the truth is that the majority of the players do not like Carlos Zambrano and wish he was elsewhere.
This is nothing new—Cubs players have long disliked Big Z.
Now, this latest incident where Zambrano stormed into the dugout and seemingly yelled at everybody and anybody hasn't helped the relationship.
But according to sources within the organization, this is not the first time that the majority of Cubs players have privately wished that he would move on.
The Cubs have been losers for far too long, and frustration is ...
That's right, the last Stephen Strasburg is making a comeback in baseball.
Before Strasburg came around, Prior was the most hyped pitching prospect to come into Major League Baseball. Everything you have heard in the past year since Strasburg was drafted No. 1 overall in the MLB draft was said about Prior nine years ago when he was drafted second overall by the Cubs.
He was built to pitch. His mechanics are perfect. He throws so effortlessly that he won't break down, etc...
Well we all know how that went, and Mark has not seen on the mound ...
