Everybody's jumping on the bandwagon to bash Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano for cleaning out his cubicle and saying he was retiring after last night's loss to the Atlanta Braves. But as usual, the hysterical masses have it all wrong.
The Cubs and manager Mike Quade quit on him last night when they left him in the game when he clearly had nothing. Whether it was to embarrass him or save the bullpen, he should not have been left in for the thumping he was subjected to.
There wasn't even a pitcher warming up until he gave up the second of back-to-back homers in the fifth ...
Carlos Zambrano has allegedly walked out on the Chicago Cubs after yesterday's nightmare against the Atlanta Braves. Zambrano is no stranger to ejections and has had quite a few meltdowns during his career. According to reports, last night's tantrum may be his last, indicating Big Z is done with the Cubs. Here's what manager Mike Quade had to say about the ordeal: “I’m really disappointed, His locker is empty. I don’t know where he’s at. He walked out on 24 guys that are battling their asses off for him. I don’t know where he’s gone or what he’s doing. I heard he ...
Chicago Cubs' pitcher Carlos Zambrano is a very emotional guy who wears his passion not only on his sleeve, but as an entire outfit. There are two sides of emotion. There's excitement and there's anger, and anger has gotten the best of Zambrano many times in his career with the Chicago Cubs. When he was a top-notch ace, it was tolerable, when he was going through seasons like his current one, carrying a 4.82 ERA in 24 starts, it clearly rubs people the wrong way. The Chicago Cubs have made a huge investment on the mad pitcher, signing him to a five-year, $91.5 ...
I couldn't watch the Cubs game tonight, but when I flipped on the highlights I wasn't surprised to see that another Carlos Zambrano meltdown was the top story.Such has become the norm during his 11 seasons with the Cubs. We always hoped he could harness his borderline-crazy energy and rage into his pitching, but time and time again he has failed us. We've seen him lose his cool on the mound more times than we can count on our fingers. We've seen him take swings his at teammates, as well as Gatorade machines. We've seen him snap enough bats over ...
On the WGN 720 postgame show tonight, Jill (I don’t know her last name) relayed the bewildering news that Carlos Zambrano, after a crushing loss which included being tossed for throwing at Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, packed up his belongings and told the trainer on his way out that he was retiring. Jill later relayed that they would follow the story tonight and into tomorrow, and that Mike Quade was “fuming.” Is this real, or simply more of Big Z’s usual antics? He’s talked of retirement before, is he finally calling it quits? What do you think? There ...
The Cubs won another game Thursday, and I can't help but think how harmful that is for the future of the team. Winning now means nothing! Last year, the Cubs let a hot finish sucker them into keeping things generally intact, and selecting a manager to run the team who has no business in a major league dugout. Now that they have won nine of their last eleven games, I'm seeing the same thing happening again, and this madness needs to end now! Jim Hendry recently said they were only a few moves away from contending next year, and Alfonso Soriano ...
After I saw that idiot fan at the Arena Football game grab the player when he was waiting to return a kick earlier this week, my brain was forced into motion thinking of more fan interactions during games or at any other sporting events.A few came to me very quickly, while others had me searching. Here’s my list of the best/worst fan interactions.Begin Slideshow
Chicago Cubs manager Mike Quade has been saying strange things all season, and his comments about the Washington Nationals on Tuesday did little to prove his sanity. When asked if he was considering removing Rodrigo Lopez from the rotation so that Casey Coleman could get more major league experiance down the stretch, Quade told the Chicago Tribune,
"I'm committed to [Lopez] right now." Quade said. "As I look at this thing as it pans out—take it four days at a time—we're going to play Washington, who is in the hunt still, and we have contenders throughout the rest of the month.
That's ...
Out of nowhere the wobbly and slightly concussed Chicago Cubs have awoken from their four month hibernation to play the enviable role of spoiler and provide the most desperate legion of fans with the faintest glimmer of hope that maybe, somehow, there's sunshine on the horizon of "next year."If the early returns of August 2011 sound similar to the famed final 37 games of 2010, then you'd be absolutely right. During what turned out to be another lost season of Cubs baseball, the 2010 Chicago Cubs seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of the Jim Hendry/Lou Piniella regime. Piniella looked old, fat, severely drunk ...
With a little over a month left in the 2011 MLB regular season, it is safe to say that the Chicago Cubs are going nowhere. This discombobulated franchise is 17 games under .500 and get this, below the Pirates in the NL Central. Albeit, the Pirates are playing great baseball considering their recent history.Cubs fans have little to enjoy and look forward to this season. Washed up and overpaid veterans do not appeal to the common fan and trust me, the Cubs have plenty of them. What the Cubs also have, however, is a handful of young and promising talent. ...
