Trades often take years before anyone truly knows who "won" the deal, but in the short-term, I feel the Cubs were the winners. Not by a huge margin, but a slight one. In case you've been living under a rock, or just got out of jail, the Cubs have been busy this week. First trading Carlos Zambrano to the Marlins and now sending Andrew Cashner to the Padres for Anthony Rizzo. An everyday first baseman for a relief pitcher is, to me, always a smart investment. Sure, the Cubs were trying to do more with Cashner, and the Padres may ...
Just one day after finalizing the terms of their trade with the Miami Marlins that sent Carlos Zambrano and cash for Chris Volstad, the Cubs pulled off another major trade. They sent young right-hander Andrew Cashner and minor-league outfielder Kyung-Min Na to the San Diego Padres for top first-base prospect Anthony Rizzo and minor-league starter Zach Cates. On the surface, the trade seems fairly balanced. In Rizzo, the Cubs get the top-ranked first-base prospect in baseball. In Cashner, the Padres get a major-league-ready starter who can slot either into their rotation or as a late-inning reliever.Add in players who had moderate success ...
How do you like Theo Epstein now? After kicking off his Chicago Cubs tenure with two low-key acquisitions in outfielder David DeJesus and third baseman Ian Stewart, Epstein has shifted personnel moves into second gear now—dumping volatile Carlos Zambrano and adding young, slugging first baseman Anthony Rizzo. At this rate, Cubs fans can dream that maybe Epstein can keep the magic rolling and dump Alfonso Soriano on some AL team needing a designated hitter, trade Ryan Dempster for a top pitching prospect and trade Marlon Byrd for more pitching depth. It probably won't happen, but it's not out of the realm of possibility, ...
In one of the biggest trades of last year's offseason, the Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Adrian Gonzalez from the San Diego Padres for prospects, Anthony Rizzo, Casey Kelly and Reymond Fuentes.Rizzo, a first baseman, was an intriguing prospect given his connection to then-Red Sox general manger Theo Epstein's protege, Padres' GM Jed Hoyer.Fast forward to now, as Theo Epstein is the President of Baseball Operations and Jed Hoyer is the general manager of the Chicago Cubs, and as of today, Anthony Rizzo has rejoined Epstein/Hoyer in Chicago as he was traded from the Padres' for right-handed pitcher Andrew ...
The Chicago Cubs got the first baseman they so desperately needed and they didn't have to give up a lot—either in money or value—to do so. According to Adam Berry of MLB.com, the team agreed to a deal with the San Diego Padres to acquire Anthony Rizzo and Zack Cates for Andrew Cashner and Kyung-Min Na. Despite some talk that they might be interested in signing Prince Fielder, the Cubs were always going to have to find a more cost efficient way to plug their hole at first base. They just paid Carlos Zambrano $15.5 million to go play somewhere else, ...
If you didn't think it could be done, somehow the Chicago Cubs managed to trade consistently unstable pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins. With that move, fans should no longer consider the possibility of trading outfielder Alfonso Soriano a figment of their imaginations. With Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer taking over on the North Side, they haven't been shy about making deals to empty the roster. The move of pitcher Sean Marshall wasn't likely a difficult move, but actually getting Zambrano out of Chicago should make many believers as to what Epstein and Hoyer can do.That being said, how could one not ...
In a four-player deal, it has been announced that the Chicago Cubs have acquired first baseman Anthony Rizzo, along with right-hander Zach Cates, from the San Diego Padres for pitcher Andrew Cashner and outfielder Kyung-Min Na.The move presumably takes the Cubs out of the running for free-agent slugger Prince Fielder, as the 22-year-old Rizzo is among the top prospects in all of baseball and will presumably be the Cubs' first baseman of the present and future.Acquired in the trade that sent Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox last offseason, Rizzo is a got a taste of big league action last ...
According to a report from WBBM in Chicago, Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused by a Chicago woman of sexual assault following an incident last September.
Castro's attorney's quickly issued a statement that said they "are confident these allegations are baseless."
While we know that professional athletes are often the target of false accusations by people wanting to profit from the financial success of the players, if this is true, then the Cubs are in for a world of hurt.
Castro is the best asset the organization currently maintains. Not only does Castro play one of the most important defensive positions on the field, ...
Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro is wanted for questioning in response to an accusation of sexual assault last September, according to WBBM Newsradio in Chicago. The report says a woman went back to Castro's apartment after having some drinks and woke up to him taking advantage of her after she had blacked out.
It says that when she woke up she screamed and yelled at her alleged attacker, and left the apartment at about 5:30 a.m. getting a ride home from her friend. It would be 12 hours before the alleged victim would go to a hospital, and police would become involved. ...
The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox are both in similar phases of organization development. They have moved away from the idea of signing high-priced free agents in favor of bringing in organization depth and developing it for the parent club. Both team has the ability to sign a free agent if needed, and they have, but the makeup of these teams are becoming the same as they bring up homegrown talent to fill roster spots.Let's go position by position and determine which team is the king of Chicago.
