Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster wasn't happy that word of a possible trade to the Atlanta Braves was leaked before the team notified him. He has the right to decline any trade, which means the deal hinges on his acceptance. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports while Dempster was likely to accept a deal to the Braves before yesterday's events, he felt blindsided by the reports and has now caused discussions to stall as both teams await his decision. The Atlanta Braves are closing in on a deal to acquire Ryan Dempster from the Cubs in exchange for several high-profile minor league prospects. If Chicago pulled the trigger on this deal, it'd be another smart move by team president Theo Epstein. Dempster has been pretty good in a Cubs uniform since arriving in 2004 but, moving forward, he is of minimal use to the club.Moving the 35-year-old pitcher during his best season means he is overvalued to any team in a playoff race. In other words, somebody, like the Braves, are going to overpay for him, helping the Cubs in ...

As much as I would like the Cubs to keep Matt Garza and sign him to an extension—as some reports do have the Cubs considering—it is probable he will be dealt before the deadline.
With so many suitors for the services of Ryan Dempster, stretching coasts from the L.A. Dodgers to the Washington Nationals, interest in Garza has not yet spiked. One possible reason is that Garza's move will most likely come after the Ryan Dempster trade saga concludes, as ESPN’s Buster Olney reported on Friday morning’s edition of ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning radio show, a report Jayson ...
