Local Cubs TV Broadcast Features All Sorts of Bad Graphic Errors

April 9, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The Chicago Cubs are having a rough start to the 2015 season, guys. Thus far, they've applied the "Put a Bird on It" philosophy in masking unmet deadlines, converted the upper deck concourse into a pee-drizzled slip-and-slide and now, through no fault of their own, they are garnering sideways headlines due to a local news snafu. Deadspin's Tom Ley spotted a series of egregiously bad Chyron fails that ran during ABC 7 Chicago's introduction to Wednesday night's game between the Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals.  The broadcast featured graphics with multiple spelling and geographic errors that may lead you to wonder if a well-meaning Labrador ...

Cubs Fans Urinate in Cups Due to Bathroom Complications at Wrigley Field

April 6, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Opening Day came early to Wrigley Field on Sunday night, with the Chicago Cubs losing to the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-0, at the only stadium in professional baseball that could’ve really used an extra 24 hours of preparation. Television broadcasts covered Wrigley Field’s ongoing renovation at length, but what viewers at home didn’t see was the meltdown of desperation and ammonia taking place in the stadium’s concourses and upper deck. Simply put, the Cubs’ restroom facilities were not up to snuff, and long restroom lines led to a messy jettisoning of dignity for fans desperate to relieve themselves.   UPDATE: April 7 As promised, the Cubs are bringing in portable ...

Edwin Jackson Went to Wrong Stadium Before Getting Lit Up by Oakland A’s

March 25, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The Oakland Athletics mauled Edwin Jackson on Tuesday. The Chicago Cubs righty took the mound in the second inning and was immediately ravaged to the tune of nine hits and eight runs scored over the course of 1.2 innings. Jackson essentially served as batting practice for Oakland, and perhaps fittingly, he admitted his disastrous performance occurred after a morning spent driving around trying to find the stadium. CSN Chicago’s Patrick Mooney reports that the 31-year-old pitcher showed up late for the Cubs’ spring training tilt against Oakland after driving to the wrong venue. According to Mooney, Jackson turned to Google Maps for guidance ...

Chris Pratt Botches First Pitch and ‘Take Me out to the Ballgame’ at Cubs Game

September 8, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Chris Pratt can do no wrong. Much like Jennifer Lawrence or the Pope, Pratt is an infallible being incapable of ruining anything. He is quirky, yet relatable and charming. He gets a free pass all the time, every time. It’s best to reiterate this part of Pratt’s persona before discussing his afternoon at Wrigley Field on Sunday, which included a botched first pitch and a tumble through the seventh inning stretch. It wasn’t the Parks and Recreation actor’s most dazzling outing, but it was certainly his most Pratt-ish to date. It all started with the ceremonial first pitch. MLB Fan Cave crafted a ...

Harry Caray’s Diary from 1972 Contains Log of 288 Consecutive Days of Barhopping

June 3, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

The sky is blue, and Harry Caray guzzled beer—these are not revelations. What does come as news is the recent discovery of one of Caray's diaries, which allegedly contains a wealth of information concerning his superhuman barhopping habits. Neil Steinberg of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that a dark green "Day Book" belonging to the famous Chicago Cubs broadcaster has been found. According to Steinberg, the diary is one of eight inherited by Grant DePorter, CEO of the Harry Caray chain of eateries. DePorter came into possession of the book after the executor of Caray's estate unearthed it during a cleaning of his former ...

Comcast SportsNet Accidentally Airs NSFW Image of Cubs Mascot

January 15, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

If you were scratching around Twitter earlier this week, you’ll likely have noticed that people don’t like the Chicago Cubs' new mascot. The Cubs released pictures and literature Monday afternoon introducing the franchise's first official mascot: a pants-less, backward hat-wearing character dubbed "Clark the Cub." As mentioned, Wrigleyville’s new kid-critter was met with mixed reviews—or perhaps more accurately, a torrent of negative feedback. The mascot was widely touted as gimmicky, immature and unprofessional. Shortly after the Cubs' announcement, Tom Ley of Deadspin (NSFW) entered the fray and asked readers to fire up their Adobe Creative Suite and do horrible, abominable things to the new mascot. ...

No, it’s not a whodunnit murder mystery set in London—it’s just baseball being played in a fog bank. A freak bit of weather turned the city of Chicago into a murky haze of low-settling clouds Monday, leaving spectators and players alike straining to see the action as the Cubs and the White Sox faced off against their respective opponents, as Rick Chandler of SportsGrid reports. The visibility at Wrigley Field was furry at best as the Cubs took on the Cincinnati Reds.Things were even worse on the South Side, where the matchup between the White Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays had ...
