Carlos Zambrano Considers Retirement: Chicago Cubs Should Gladly Pack His Bags

August 13, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

I couldn't watch the Cubs game tonight, but when I flipped on the highlights I wasn't surprised to see that another Carlos Zambrano meltdown was the top story.Such has become the norm during his 11 seasons with the Cubs.  We always hoped he could harness his borderline-crazy energy and rage into his pitching, but time and time again he has failed us.  We've seen him lose his cool on the mound more times than we can count on our fingers.  We've seen him take swings his at teammates, as well as Gatorade machines.  We've seen him snap enough bats over ...

Mike Quade: Another Example of Why the Chicago Cubs Manager Doesn’t Have a Clue

August 11, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Chicago Cubs manager Mike Quade has been saying strange things all season, and his comments about the Washington Nationals on Tuesday did little to prove his sanity.  When asked if he was considering removing Rodrigo Lopez from the rotation so that Casey Coleman could get more major league experiance down the stretch, Quade told the Chicago Tribune,  "I'm committed to [Lopez] right now." Quade said. "As I look at this thing as it pans out—take it four days at a time—we're going to play Washington, who is in the hunt still, and we have contenders throughout the rest of the month. That's ...

Tyler Colvin: Cubs Outfielder Hits Home Run in Pittsburgh, Gives Chicago Hope

August 3, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Tyler Colvin’s performance last night (3-for-5, HR) against the Pirates not only helped the Cubs to an 11-6 win, but also gave the team a glimmer of hope.  Some wrote Colvin off after his horrendous start to this season, and it’s hard to blame them.  Geovany Soto and Randy Wells have certainly shown Chicago that players are capable of becoming mediocre after strong rookie campaigns. If Colvin could get back on track and start spurring the ball like he did in 2010, then Cubs fans could at least feel good about having two members of the future in house.  There’s ...

MLB Trade Rumors: Top 5 Trade Destiations for Aramis Ramirez

July 14, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Aramis Ramirez has already stated that he will not waive his no trade clause should the Cubs attempt to move him this season. But as Derek Lee taught Cubs fans last year, you never know what’s going to happen.  The former Cubs first baseman originally said that he would veto all trades out of Chicago, but eventually accepted a trade to the Braves after rejecting two other deals. Obviously, Ramirez and Lee are very different.  Ramirez doesn't seem to be the type of player who is passionate about winning a World Series.  He may really be fine with finishing out ...

Ryne Sandberg: Manager Won’t Rule out a Possible Return to the Chicago Cubs

July 13, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Ryne Sandberg did not rule out someday returning to the Cubs organization when interviewed by the ESPN 1000’s Waddle and Silvy Show on Wednesday morning. “I just want to do this at the major league level, so wherever that opportunity would come I would listen," Sandberg said. The Hall of Fame second baseman spent four years in the Cubs' minor league system as a manager before interviewing for the Cubs' major league managerial position over the offseason. “I had my fingers crossed last year," he said.  "I feel like I’m doing what I need to do for an opportunity.  So ...

Chicago Cubs: Tom Ricketts Isn’t the Owner Chicago Expected

July 11, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Maybe Tom Ricketts deserves a reintroduction, because he's nothing like the owner that Cubs fans expected. Things looked rosy in October of 2009, when Thomas S. Ricketts and his family took over majority ownership of Chicago’s north side baseball team. After years of the Tribune Company maximizing profits first and focusing on baseball second, finally the Cubs had an owner who was passionate about winning. Ricketts was a fan, just like the millions around the world who had suffered through year after year of disappointment. He met his wife in the Wrigley Field bleachers. What more could Cubs fans ask for? ...

MLB Trade Rumors: Cubs Carlos Pena Is Making a Case to Be Traded

July 7, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Carlos Pena looks like he's 30 again.  He's only 33, but still. Pena’s two run homer Wednesday night gave him a team leading 18 for the season. Thirty five HR and 90 RBI are a realistic possibility for the first-year Cub.  Stats you would expect out of a player making $10 million. It only makes sense for the Cubs to trade Pena before this season’s trade deadline.  The team is going nowhere this year, and Pena’s hot hitting isn’t nearly enough to settle one’s stomach when watching whatever social security-eligible starting pitcher the Cubs choose to hand the ball to. ...

The Chicago Cubs have been around in name since 1903. In honor of current Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro's recent All-Star selection, we rank the Cubs top five shortstops of all time.Begin Slideshow

Mike Quade: Top 5 Jobs That the Chicago Cubs Manager Can Fall Back On

July 6, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Mike Quade is officially on the hot seat. The Cubs dropped to 35-52 with a loss to the Nationals Tuesday night, the second worst record in all of baseball.  The Cubs certainly have better than second to last talent on their roster, so naturally, much blame will fall on the manager. Quade is a good guy, and a lot of people like him, but managing might not be his thing.  His lineup cards continually leave Cubs fans scratching their heads, and his inability to manage his pitching staff is somewhat maddening. Though he isn’t as open about it, at times, Quade ...

MLB Trade Deadline: Starlin Castro and 6 Others the Chicago Cubs Shouldn’t Move

June 16, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

While the trade deadline is still a ways away, if the Chicago Cubs season keeps heading in the same direction, the team will eventually have a fire sale. The Cubs need to begin rebuilding with prospects as they wait for big contracts to slowly come off the books. The Cubs have more than a few players that could help out contending teams, but there are seven current Cubbies that should keep wearing the red and blue through at least the end of this season.Begin Slideshow
