Tyler Colvin: The Best Avaliable Option in Center Field For the Cubs?

December 24, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

After letting their top target, Mike Cameron, slip away to the Red Sox while they tried desperately to unload Milton Bradley, the Cubs are now left holding six million dollars, and wondering who will be manning center field next season. Looking at the list of available free agents, I'm not convinced that anyone out there can provide any more bang for the buck than former first round pick Tyler Colvin. Let's examine the potential candidates on the free agent market: Rick Ankiel Pros: Left handed power hitter, strong arm. Cons: Horrendous plate discipline, coming off worst year to date. Marlon Byrd ...

The All-2000s Chicago Cubs Team

The first article I ever wrote for Bleacher Report was my 1990s All-Decade Cubs team, to which the link is below: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/164257-all-1990s-chicago-cubs-team So here it is, the sequel, my All-2000s Cubs Team. This one was a lot less painful to compile as I did not have to include such past studs as Steve Buechele and Brian McRae like I did for my 1990s team. However, as awful of a decade for Cubs baseball as the 1990s was, the 2000s were almost worse for Cubs fans, as heartbreak after heartbreak be felled the North Siders. All in all it was a far more successful ...

As a Cubs, fan it was a lot of fun putting together my list of The Chicago Cubs 20 Best Transactions Since 1990. However, it is only fair that I follow that up with the 20 Worst. While none of these moves hold a candle to the Aramis Ramirez trade in terms of significance, there have nonetheless been some truly awful decisions made in the recent history of the franchise. The biggest surprise here for many will be number three on this list, as I'm not sure aa whole lot of people know about that one. You will see what I mean. So ...

Let’s Make a Deal: The Chicago Cubs’ 20 Best Transactions Since 1990

I'll give the Cubs one thing, they are not afraid to pull the trigger on a big trade or sign a big name player, if they think it will help the team. With the recent flop signing of Milton Bradley and seemingly unwise trade of Mark DeRosa, I decided to look back at some of the moves that went right dating back to 1990. Before we begin with the list, I just want to say thank you to the Pittsburgh Pirates, as three of your bonehead trades managed to make this list, two of them even cracked the top five. As you can ...

Remember When They Were Cubs? My All-Obscure Cubs Team Since 2000

I will start off by giving credit to Alex Akita, who's article "Top-11: Most Randomly Awesome Seattle Mariners of All-Time" was the inspiration for this article. If you get a chance, check that article out as well as it is a good one. This slideshow will take a look at some of the shortest tenured Cubs of the last decade. Some of these guys filled in admirably for injured players, while some of them had laughably short and unproductive stays with the team, and were out the door as quickly as they came in. For anyone who considers themselves a Cubs fan or ...
