Chicago Cubs: Why They Shouldn’t Trade Alfonso Soriano

May 25, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

I know the popular opinion is and has been for years that the Chicago Cubs need to do whatever they can do to trade Alfonso Soriano. I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him. Soriano has two years left on his deal after this season. He is due to make somewhere around $50 million over the remainder of his contract. The Cubs are currently paying Carlos Zambrano and Marlon Byrd to play elsewhere. They are paying over $20 million for those two to play for Miami and Boston, respectively. If they were able to find a taker for ...

Chicago Cubs: Could Kerry Wood Be the Next Mr. Cub?

I know for most Chicago Cubs fans this may sound sacrilegious. Hell, when I mentioned this to a White Sox fan he said I was nuts, but hear me out. Ernie Banks is easily the best player in Cubs history. He earned the nickname "Mr. Cub" because he was a fan favorite and their best player. He played all 19 of his MLB seasons with the Cubs. However no one is around forever and someone will undoubtedly eventually inherit the moniker. So why not Kerry Wood? Since Banks retired in 1971, a few players looked like they could inherit the title. Ryne Sandberg ...

For the first time in, I believe, ever, the Cubs ...

By all accounts, Prior was just OK in that throwing session. On Tuesday, Prior showed just how serious he is with his most recent comeback attempt. The former second overall pick in the MLB draft pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League. According to the manager of the Flyers, Paul Abbott, Prior will be used as a setup man. Prior hasn't ...

Former Chicago Cub, Mark Prior, Attemtping Comeback

That's right, the last Stephen Strasburg is making a comeback in baseball. Before Strasburg came around, Prior was the most hyped pitching prospect to come into Major League Baseball. Everything you have heard in the past year since Strasburg was drafted No. 1 overall in the MLB draft was said about Prior nine years ago when he was drafted second overall by the Cubs. He was built to pitch. His mechanics are perfect. He throws so effortlessly that he won't break down, etc... Well we all know how that went, and Mark has not seen on the mound ...
