Reports out of Chicago late Saturday night are that the results of Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano's MRI show nothing more than tendinitis in his left knee. There is reportedly no structural damage to the knee.
The "Aw, shucks" you hear is from most Cubs fans, as Soriano needing bench time would allow manager Lou Piniella to play rookie phenom Jake Fox in left field more regularly.
Fox, 27, has been an offensive powderkeg since coming to Chicago. In only 160 at bats through Saturday, he has 10 home runs and 39 runs batted in already, with a batting average over .300 as ...
Reports in Chicago are that Chicago Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano will have an MRI on his ailing knee on Saturday.
There have been whispers all season that Soriano's knee was an issue, but he has refused to deal with the issue because of other injury issues on the team. Now it appears the discomfort he's feeling is significant enough that he's going to have the knee examined.
Cubs' Manager Lou Piniella had indicated that some of the problems Soriano has had in left field this year defensively have been a result of the knee issues. Unfortunately for Soriano, unless his knee has ...
On Thursday afternoon, the significant news on the waiver wire in Major League Baseball was that claims had been made on the Brewers' Trevor Hoffman and the Cubs' Aaron Heilman and Rich Harden.
While Heilman is garbage and Hoffman wasn't likely to leave Milwaukee, the thought of Harden leaving Chicago sparked instant debate. With the right-hander's contract expiring in five weeks, the temptation for the Cubs to acquire depth for their farm system would have to be strong.
There was a lot of speculation about which team made the claim on Harden, with the Minnesota Twins eventually being identified as the team ...
Someone, somewhere, placed a waiver claim on Chicago Cubs starter Rich Harden today.
Who could it be?
There are so many teams involved in the pennant chases in both leagues right now (the Cubs not being among them) that there are lots of options for a potential landing spot for Harden.
Let's take a look at six options, three from each league, for Harden to land with and what they might give up to acquire the starter for five weeks.Begin Slideshow
In news that can be described as nothing short of depressing to those of us with common sense and eyes that can see, a team claimed Aaron Heilman off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.
What makes that news depressing to those of us who can see and think is that the claim means someone wants Heilman on their baseball team, and that person is getting paid a lot of money to be a general manager.
Where do I sign up to replace that moron?
Heilman, who the Mets shipped out of town last winter on the first and fastest vehicle leaving New York, ...

Last night, after the Chicago Cubs lost by nine to the lowly Washington Nationals, Milton Bradley decided it would be a good time to throw the fans under the bus.
Bradley, who has not played up to the expectations associated with his three-year, $30 million contract, claimed that he's facing adversity, hatred, and even racism while playing in the Cubs outfield.
In response to the fans' alleged attacks, Bradley has decided to take the low road. While being cheered on Wednesday night after a big two-run home run, Bradley taunted the fans by making hand gestures while walking back to the dugout.

As the 2009 baseball season comes to a close, it's already time for many franchises to begin evaluating their options to best position their teams in 2010.
Unfortunately, one of those teams that should be looking to next year is the Chicago Cubs.
The team with the best record in baseball in 2008 has fallen apart at the seams this year, and has lots of issues to deal with moving forward. They're financially strapped and need offensive help anywhere they can get it.
They have problems.
Yesterday, I proposed a trade between the Cubs and Red Sox to unload an under-performing asset, Carlos Zambrano, in ...
On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox traded two players-to-be-named to the New York Mets for closer Billy Wagner.
The Mets are out of the race in the National League East, and the Red Sox are fighting for their lives in the American League Wild Card race.
Wagner, 38, was once an elite closer but has had Tommy John surgery and is just coming back now from a long road of injuries. He should provide additional depth to the Red Sox bullpen down the stretch.
However, where the boring details end is where the story begins in Boston.
Wagner didn't want to waive his no-trade ...
My latest bold proposal is for the Cubs' most expensive pitcher, not to be confused with their ace, is that Carlos Zambrano should be referred to as "Big Zero" instead of "Big Z" from now on.
Why "Zero"? Because that's about what his impact on the Cubs' pennant chances has been this season.
Over the weekend, while Zambrano was waiting in Chicago for the Cubs to return from Los Angeles, there were rumors that he was spotted playing shortstop in a local 16-inch softball league. Apparently that's how Zambrano planned on keeping his ailing back and legs from getting rusty between starts.
Then ...
